Quick Update, Useful Blogroll Tip, and Excited Squee
Written by Susan on December 12th, 2008
This is a quickie update, folks, as the momentum is building with the Alex Jeffrey’s group of students at the moment. I am in the process of tweaking this blog’s design goofs, trying to upload some links, signing up for Aweber, getting a marketing domain name, looking into Adwords, partnering with those who are in this process with me, reading the how-to info on Alex’s website, taking notes of all I do to put into a how-to eBook of my own soon, responding to comments and questions…
All this while trying to remove my head from my anal orifice! Shoot, I may post video of THAT, if I ever get around to learning how to upload vids.
So I necessary am pressed for time. But fear not, Reader, I will have a post very soon that tells you in excruciating detail what I’ve been doing to keep up with my fellow students in this astonishing Internet Income training program (including posting links you can follow to learn even more). I also intend to give away some of the how-to’s I’ve managed to pick up from helpful students along the way that I see others are also struggling with.
Are you wondering how to get a blogroll list of names on your site quickly? Others have explained how to add to your list one-by-one by going into your Wordpress dashboard, choosing Manage – Links, and clicking on Add New. But if you want your blogroll up fast, and you see that others already have a long list on their sites and want to save yourselves some time, I can send you an .xml file I have of about 70 names or so. Just comment on this blog and I’ll email that file to you, along with the instructions on how to upload them all in an instant (thanks to the great help from Austin Delaney - you’re on my Christmas card list, man!)
If you know how to create an .xml file of your own, I’ll put the instructions here:
First, go into “Widgets” in your Wordpress dashboard and make sure that your Links are added, so it shows up on your sidebar.
Then, follow these steps:
In your WP dashboard:
1. Manage
2. Links
3. Click ‘Add New’
4. Over on the right, under ‘Related’ you see 3 links: Manage All Links, Manage All Link Categories, Import Links. Chose ‘Import Links.’
5. A page comes up that says “Import your blogroll from another system”. Go to the Browse button under “Or choose from your local disk.”
6. Find where you’ve saved the links.xml file
7. Make sure the category selected at the bottom is ‘Blogroll’ (there’s a dropdown list if it isn’t already listed as the default)
8. Click ‘Import OPML File’ button at the bottom.
Since my name doesn’t happen to be on this list, could you do me the favor of adding me manually? That’s Susan Livingstone (with an ‘e’ at the end!), and the address to this blog, of course, is http://susanlivingstone.com.
That should do it – I’d love to hear from you if it works (or even if it doesn’t – we can brainstorm our way out of the mess, if necessary).
Finally, want to mention Garry Parke’s “Get A Slice of the $1 MILLION Up For Grabs!” post – get there (from here), read it, follow the directions, and you can get your name and a link to your blog in Alex’s new eBook wherein he describes the case study he’s making of this, his first training program (and all the successful student’s he created from it – THIS MEANS US!).
More later, folks – must go and see if I can increase the circulation to my butt, now.

Hi Susan
I would appreciate your xml instructions please so I can save some time adding in all these links. I’ve already added you manually to my site so I don’t forget. Can you please add me as I was a late joining student and missed the list. This is exciting stuff huh! Now I’m going to read the rest of your Blog. I am working my around. I have been to Dean & Garry’s site and now yours.
Cheers
ChrissyD
Hi Susan,
Great tip, aren’t you a clever chook!
It’s a pity you didn’t have your post up sooner! I’ve manually entered everyone that has dropped by and put a post on my site. I’ve ripped off Garry Parkes list and saved it in an excel spreadsheet, but I will go back over and grab the latest addition and save it as a .*xml data file. That way I can add them easily and keep up to date when Garry adds additional names to the list.!
I love your header! It’s a real corker! I feel like the little one dragging up the tail!
Thanks for dropping by and saying hi. We’ll keep in touch.
Cheers,

Hi Susan,
Thanks for the post on my blog. I’ve added you to my blogroll, too. Wish I’d seen your post before I went through everything manually … ugh!
Best of luck,

Hi Susan,
I’m trying to work out if those are ants crawling up your blog header or a new breed of Pixar animated characters that I haven’t come across yet – hey! they’re cute.
Keep up the good work.
regards
Guy
Hi Susan,
Thanks for stopping by. I have added you to my blogroll.
Tip about .xml is brill. I will add it to my ‘how to’ page and link back to your site. If you have any other tips let me know.
Speak to you soon,

Hey Susan,
Your blog is cool. I was not brave enough to go with all the bright colors. It really looks good over her. I just wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog and wanted to return the favor. I have added you to my blog roll and will check out the xml file you were talking about.
Good luck with the coaching.
David
Hi Susan,
I found you on Chrissy’s site and dashed right over to get your instructions on how to add the blog roll quickly. I’ve already added many, but it can’t hurt to learn it the easy way.
After all only 1/5 of the people are active so far according to the comments at Thursday’s brainstorming session. They’ll be popping up with questions and it will be good to be able to help them.
If you want help with video, let me know. That I have figured out.
All the best,
Theresa
Hi Susan,
great work on the blog, really catches the eye!
Thanks for visiting my blog and saying Hi, if you need a hand with any techie issues feel free to drop by and let me know. Will add you to my blogroll.
Hope to speak soon,
Carl.
Hi Susan,
Gaz-man from Gary-Land here.
I reckon importing that xml file is cheating – LOL – only coz I didn’t do it. I did all mine manually by hunting newbies out and then making comments on their blogs. THAT is building a relationship. Importing files from others isn’t.
Also, what if the links are all broken or corrupt? Lots of blogrolls are and if anyone does that xml stuff to mine then beware… my blogroll is seeded and I will know who the cheats are.
I like your look here – very striking.
You said over at Gary-Land… “crap writing = crap results” – very amusing. I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Have you been over to see my “Project X” post that was borne out of a weekend away at Noof-Noof? This is gonna be big.

PS: Your “reward” for commenting at Gary-Land is to be included on my “exclusive” blogroll – LOL!
Hi Susan,
Just saying hi – really love that blog header

Hey Suzan
Of course you can send me that file! bobsemail5@aol.com
I knew there was an easier way!
Way to go! I don’t care if Garry thinks its cheating although I agree with him it isn’t nearly as personal. But I look at it like it’s going to give me more time to post and therefore build deeper relationships. Take That Perth Man! lol
I’ll add you the old fashioned way just to make Garry Happy!

Thanks to everyone who has left a comment! I’ve responded to each of you, although via email rather than here in my own comments – silly, I know, and a rookie mistake, but I’m working on it. What I don’t know about blogging etiquette would fill a library…
Just wanted to respond to Gary’s remark about the “impersonal” nature of using an .xml file to quick-load a bunch of blogroll names – I’ve been making the effort to personally contact everyone on my blogroll to view their site and introduce myself, so it doesn’t need to be an impersonal thing at all – it’s just a timesaver. It’s free exposure for all of these people, anyway, and they didn’t even have to ask me to add their names! At least, that’s how I see it, but as I said before, what I don’t know about blogging etiquette, etc. So if I’ve done something egregiously tacky and just didn’t know it, I’ll be happy to stand corrected!
Again, thanks for all the comments!
